The new hauteness

Okay, I’m over Animal Collection (thanks) now. Well, not really, but I actually bought the album, so I’ve listened to it about non-stop for the past two weeks or so, as have you, I imagine. I think I’ll hit you folks with one track off MWPP tonight.

I was in a real acoustic mood last week, and I’m feeling poppy this week. But then, there’s also some grooviness in there. I don’t know. Tonight’s show promises to be a competent blend of overall good stuff. Competent. That’s what I’m shooting for.

Someday I’ll get to mind-blowing.

*sigh*

I Just got PAID, fools.

…which means…

I’m going MUSIC shopping, bitches!

For awhile now, I’ve been toying with the idea of breaking the show up into two separate halves: the rocking, poppy first half, and a darker, cavernous, groove-oriented second half. As in, from 10-11, you’ll hear all the upbeat melodies, sing-alongs, fist-pumpers and whatnot, then from 11-12, the experimental stuff, dark beats, dub and dubstep, hip hop, and even the occasional hardcore.

Essentially, I want The Distance: Jedi Edition, and The Distance: The Dark Side.

That’s not happening tonight, but what do you think? Are you a fan of these tunes mixed together in an unholy communion of lion and lamb, or should the show be rent in twain? Let me know.

For now: Tonight’s tunes-

So guess what I’ve been listening to…

Okay, I know I rambled about the new Animal Collective record last week, but I just can’t stop. It’s so good. Almost too good. It’s honestly about all I want to listen to right now, but I have to force myself to pay attention to the other stuff out there (Some new AC Newman and …Trail Of Dead tonight, though really I just wanted to put Merriweather Post Pavilion on repeat…).

This is not payola/plugola or anything. I just think it’s a damn fine record. And I hope you do too. I’ll limit myself to two tunes from it tonight.

Enjoy.

Oh Nine!

New year, New president, New crises, New Animal Collective, ‘09 can’t help but be great. Great enough to make us all say “wow… 2008. Now THAT was a year to forget.” Seriously… the end of the year music lists were more or less a collective “meh” from the entire industry. Everyone just seemed to pick the least mediocre albums out there. While there were cetainly a few standouts (Hercules and Love Affair, TVOTR, Girl Talk…) where were the huge wallop-over-the-head albums like we had in ‘07?

Ah well, let auld acquaintance be forgot or whatever the hell that song is about. 2009, as stated above, kicked off with Animal Collective and their phenomenal Merriweather Post Pavillion, and there just seems to be more fantastic stuff in the pipeline.

Stay tuned, music fans. Stay tuned.
